What is Unity3D?
Unity3D store is a powerful cross-platform 3D engine and a user-friendly development environment. Easy enough for the beginner and powerful enough for the expert; Unity should interest anybody who wants to easily create 3D games and applications for mobile, desktop, the web, and consoles.
What is a Unity ID?
A Unity ID is your user account with Unity. Once you have created your account, you can download and start using Unity and the Asset Store. Visit id.unity.com to create your own Unity ID!
Is Unity 3D free?
Unity is available free of charge.
Does Unity3D cost money?
Unity3D price starts with the free version of Unity. Eligibility: Unity Personal is for individuals, hobbyists, and small organizations with less than $100K of revenue or funds raised in the last 12 months.
What are legacy comments?
Legacy comments are comments imported from the old version of the blog to the current version.
Why are my comments anonymous?
Most comments are posted under the publisher’s full name. Anonymous comments appear in cases where comments are not linked to any account. If your name is included with your account details, it will show in the body of the comment.
How do I change my username?
You can modify or change your username yourself via your Unity ID, providing that username is not already in use.
How do I change the email address attached to my account?
You can change the email address for your account via id.unity.com, as long as the email address is not already associated with another Unity ID.
What subscription tiers can I subscribe to with Unity?
Unity currently has different plans according to your tier eligibility, subject to the Unity Terms of Service. Unity Personal (Annual revenue/ funding cap of $100K). Unity Plus (Annual revenue/ funding cap of $200k). Unity Pro (No revenue cap). Unity Enterprise (No revenue cap, minimum 20 seat purchase).
How much does a subscription to Unity cost, and for how long can I subscribe?

Does Unity take royalties?
No, Unity is royalty-free. We don't charge on a per-title basis or require a revenue share model.
Do you have a specially priced license for students?
Students enrolled in an accredited educational institution and of legal age to consent to the collection and processing of their personal information (e.g., age 13 in the US, 16 in the EU) are eligible for the Unity Student plan. If you are an educator or academic institution interested in using Unity at school, sign up for the Unity Education Grant License or the Unity Educator plan.
How do I pay for my subscription?
The following payment methods are available: Credit card; PayPal; Alipay; UnionPay; and BoaCompra (restrictions apply). To pay by invoice, please get in touch with a Unity Sales representative.
On what day is my monthly payment due?
The date you sign up for your subscription is the same date your payment is due each month. For example, if you begin your subscription on the 15th of the month, you’ll be charged for subsequent months on the 15th.
What is an Organization?
When you create a Unity ID, the system automatically creates a default Organization under your account. Organizations are a way of organizing your projects and licenses through our website. Subscription and Asset Store purchases are associated with your Organization.
Why doesn’t Unity consolidate the new and old comments?
With the new commenting system, Viafoura, your user profile page only shows a list of new comments made on the new version of the blog. Even if you comment on the old version of the blog using a particular email address and then use the same email address to create a Unity ID account and comment on the new version of the blog, your comments from both systems will not be consolidated into a single list.
Do I own the content I create with my subscription?
Yes. You fully own the content you create with Unity, even if you cancel your subscription.
Can I combine different payment plans?
Since it's not possible to purchase multiple subscriptions on the same Organization, it's also not possible to combine different payment plans. For example, you cannot have a 12-month prepaid subscription & a pay monthly subscription on the same Organization.
How are Unity organizations used?
Organizations are a way of organizing your projects, subscriptions and assets through the Unity website. Anyone associated with an Organization has access to that Organization's licenses, projects and financial information, based on their Organization role.
How do I delete my account?
When you delete your account with Unity, you are deleting your entire Unity identity and all of the data we use to provide all of our services to you. Once you delete your account, we cannot provide you with any of our products or services. This process is also permanent and non-reversible.
How many machines can I activate my Unity license on?
One seat of Unity Plus, Pro, or Enterprise can be activated on up to two machines at a time.
What roles are in an organization?
In an Organization, you have different administrative rights depending on whether you are an Owner, Manager, or User. Different roles give access to certain levels of administrative rights within an Organization.
How do I change my Unity account details?
You can edit your name, username, email address, and password via your Unity ID.
Can I activate two different versions of Unity on the same machine?
You can have as many versions of the Unity Editor installed and activated on your machine as you need with the help of the Unity Hub.
What is a group?
Groups are a tool to help larger organizations better manage their teams. An Owner or Manager of an Organization can take members from their Organization, put them in a group, and add that group to a Unity project, thereby giving members in that group access.

What is a Unity project?
A project lives inside a Unity Organization. Unity projects have access to Unity services in that Organization and can be shared and managed with others through Unity. Anyone who is a part of that Organization has access to that project. However, you can also invite people from outside the Organization into a specific project through the editor. They will have access to everything in that project, but they won't have any access to anything else in the same Organization.
How do I find the serial number to activate my subscription?
Serial numbers, also known as license keys, let the Unity Editor know what level of access to give each user. This is why it is required as part of the activation process. Personal Edition users do not need a serial number to activate – they have a different option to select during the activation process. For Pro, Plus, and Enterprise users, you can find your license key via your ID account by clicking My Seats to the left of the screen in your account settings.
What users can be associated with a project?
Anyone with a Unity ID can be associated with a project. For more information, see the manual page: Adding team members to your Unity project

Why should users be associated with a Unity project?
Unity provides features to allow users associated with a Unity project to create faster and communicate better with each other. Users associated with a Unity project can also use the Unity services associated with the Unity project’s Organization.
How do I access the consoles?
In order to develop to locked platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch, you need to apply for developer status with each console's manufacturer and have a current Unity Pro or Enterprise subscription (Xbox and PlayStation only).
What is the relationship between users, organizations, and projects?
An Organization has users and projects. Any user that is a member of an Organization will also have access to the projects associated.
What do I get with a subscription to Unity?
All Unity subscriptions include access to our powerful, real-time 3D Engine alongside various services to help manage, operate, and monetize your projects.
What happens if my Unity seat is reassigned/revoked?
Owners of an Organization can revoke Unity seats at any time. This may be required if the Owner wishes to transfer the seat to a new user within the Organization. Once a seat has been revoked, the user will be notified via email. If your seat has been revoked and you believe this to be a mistake, please contact the Organization's Owner directly.
In what countries is tax charged on a subscription?
Unity collects consumption tax on subscriptions where it is required by law. Please get in touch with your local tax authority for details in your country of residence. VAT and tax numbers are given by local tax authorities and allow you to avoid paying consumption taxes from purchases made on any Unity store page if you are exempt from doing so.
Where can I read the release notes for Unity?
You can find the full release notes for the most recent Unity release on the What's New page. You can find release notes for all previous Unity versions using the drop-down menu on the right side of the same page.
Where can I find the Unity Roadmap?
The Unity Platform Roadmap can be found on the website here. The Roadmap is broken down into different sections to give a more granular view of what's happening where and when. In addition to the Roadmap, each section allows users to submit their own ideas and feedback!
Can third-party content (such as user-generated content, game mods, and Asset Store packages) developed in Unity Personal be used to develop a game in Unity Plus or Pro, and vice versa?
Yes, you are free to license content from a third party for use in developing your game, irrespective of which version of Unity that content was created in. Can we use the code/art/assets in Unity Technologies' example projects? Assets in our tutorial and example projects are well known, and therefore we recommend you don’t use them in commercial games and content. They are meant to be used in non-commercial content for educational purposes only.
What is the “Made with Unity” splash screen?
The Unity Splash Screen is uniform across all platforms. It displays promptly while the first Scene loads asynchronously in the background. This is different from your own introductory screens or animations, which can take time to appear due to Unity having to load the entire engine and first Scene before displaying them.
I just subscribed but I need to assign a seat. How do I do that?
To access your new subscription, you will need to assign yourself a seat to receive a serial key and activate your license. If you purchased the subscription on behalf of an organization, you need to assign each user a seat before they can activate their license.
I am seeing the error 'Your serial number is not valid’ when attempting to activate through the Unity Hub. What does this mean?
The most common cause for this error is the license key running out of activations. If you have recently updated your OS or changed any hardware, this can alter the hardware ID to which the Unity License File (.ULF) is attached, effectively making the current .ULF redundant. Another cause for the error 'Your serial number is not valid' is a connection issue between your machine and the Unity license servers.
Will my project break if I upgrade to a new version of Unity?
We always recommend that users back up any of their projects before upgrading them to a new version of Unity.
Can a user be associated with multiple organizations?

Can I combine content I create with Unity Personal with content created in Educational versions of Unity at my school?
Yes, you are free to create content with Unity Personal and combine it with content created in Educational versions of Unity.
What currencies can I pay in?
Unity supports the following currencies: USD, EUR, JPY, KRW, CNY, and BRL (restrictions apply). Our primary payment gateway is WorldPay, which covers most markets.
Can I use my license offline?
Yes, you can use your Unity license offline by manually activating. However, some services such as the Package Manager and Collaborate are not available offline.
Can I sell or transfer ownership of my license to another person?
Unity licenses are associated with the Organization on which a subscription was purchased. This means that if a user leaves an Organization, the license seat can be revoked, then re-assigned to another user within the same Organization by a Manager or Owner.
What is the difference between my payment method and my payout profile?
Payment methods refer to things you use to pay for your Unity subscriptions and Asset Store purchases, for example, a credit card. A Payout Profile is for users who receive earnings from Services such as: The Asset Store (publishers); Unity Ads; and Unity Live Help.
Can I cancel my subscription before the end of my commitment period?
Software subscriptions are not cancellable during your commitment period and arenon-refundable. This means that once you commit to a subscription for a certain period of time, you are obligated to pay all payments owing for that period. Even if you stop making payments and your license is shut down, you are still obligated to pay the outstanding payment(s) for your subscription period.
How many organizations can a user create?
There is no limit to how many Organizations you can create via your Unity ID. For more information, please see the Knowledge Base article: How do I create a new Organization?
Can I upgrade my subscription?
Yes, you can upgrade your subscription to an available higher tier via your Unity ID. You will begin a new commitment term when you upgrade, and any prepaid amount remaining from the original term will be credited towards your upgrade payment.
Can I downgrade my subscription during my commitment period?
During your commitment period, it is not possible to downgrade your subscription to a lower tier. You can upgrade your subscription to a higher tier whilst in your commitment period. However, you cannot reduce the number of seats if you upgrade.
Can I change the number of seats in my subscription?
If you are the Owner of a Unity Organization with a Unity subscription associated, you can add seats to your subscription via your Unity ID. For further information, please see the Knowledge Base article: How do I increase the number of seats on my subscription plan? It is not possible to reduce the number of seats on a subscription that is still within its initial 12-month commitment period.
Will my subscription automatically renew?
Yes, your subscription will automatically renew with the same commitment term and payment frequency as your original subscription, unless you change your renewal settings or plan option in your Unity ID before your next scheduled renewal date.

Before you post on a certain board, it is best to refer to the Unity Community Code of Conduct, where the restrictions are outlined before posting. This may explain why your post has not appeared after submission.

How do I invite someone to an organization?

What is a seat?
When you subscribe to Unity, you purchase a seat or access rights for each person in your Organization using Unity. For example, if you have 10 users on your team, you need a Unity Pro subscription with 10 seats, with each seat costing $150/month. For more information, please see the article What is a 'Seat'?
Who can distribute seats in an organization?
All seats can be distributed to members of an Organization by either the Owner or the Manager of that Organization.
How do I manage seats on my subscription?
You can manage the seats in your subscription by going to Organization > Subscription > Seats. Under the Seat Management tab, you can see how many seats are assigned and left to be assigned. You can also revoke seats and re-assign them to new users.
Can I assign a seat to a freelancer not employed in my organization?
To assign a seat to a freelancer/contractor, the Owner or Manager of the Organization will first need to invite the freelancer/contractor to become a member of the Organization with the subscription attached.
If I am an end-user, how many seats can I be assigned?
A user can be a member of multiple Organizations and can thus be assigned a subscription seat from multiple Organizations. As a user, you can also bring a subscription seat with you when collaborating on another Organization's project. Please note, you cannot be assigned seats from multiple subscription tiers. For example, you cannot be assigned a Unity Pro seat in one Organization and a Unity Plus seat in another.
