Uncle Jim's Worm Farm Customer Reviews
Samantha: “My husband and I started our very own worm composting farm using these red wigglers and purchasing Uncle Jim's worm farm separately to start it all. The set up for the farm came with all items needed except the worms themselves. When I ordered these worms I was a bit concerned that they would not make it thru the shipping process but they arrived a few days after my order was processed and the worms were alive and wiggling as promised. These bad boys just needed a couple quiet days in their new composting farm before they seemed to get much larger/fatter and wiggling so much through the compost and dirt you could hear them sliming around the particles--so cool!
I actually ended up ordering a second container of the red wigglers because we had such success with the first set but found we had more scraps to feed them than our thousand could handle. Since expanding the number of worms we have in the farm helped us increase the amount of food and decrease the time it takes them to compost it.”
Traveler1226: “The worms were healthy and all went well with the set up. I am using the "Worm factory" worm farm. If you choose the worm factory system, be sure to get the "Worm factory 360" because it has a MUCH better lid. And will work better for an outdoor set up. My mistake was not feeding enough and I lost most of my 1000 worms that I ordered. My fault entirely for not researching well enough on how much and how often to feed the worms. I waited a week before giving them a second feeding. And I think my first feeding was not enough to start with. I'm back on track now and the worms I have left are doing much better. I am going to expand my worm farm and would buy these worms again. I am going to try the "Worm café" worm farm system next. The "Worm café" looks like it works about the same as the "Worm factory" but is higher off the floor and I think the treys are larger.”
Kristy: “I was terrified when I came home to see my wormies sitting in a puddle of water in the planter next to my door, box absolutely smashed flat on two sides and cardboard coming apart everywhere. When I opened the box, I saw the worms were crawling around all over inside the box having escaped from the bag they were supposed to be in. I acted quickly to get them into the prepared worm composter I'd set up in anticipation of the worms delivery. I was happy to see that I had only lost a few worms that I could see, (two got trapped between the flaps of some dry cardboard and it sucked the moisture right out of the poor little guys and a couple had gotten smashed with the box.) They quickly adapted to their new home and they have been happily making compost for me ever since. They have amazing appetites and find that if I to collect all my worm-friendly scraps for the week and blend it up into a mash, they have enough food to keep them happy without any excess to rot and stink up my kitchen. (I keep mine indoors because I live in a very hot, dry desert.) I definitely recommend these guys, and I do wish the shipper will pay more attention to the label and therefore be more careful with your box than they were with mine.”
Jenifer: “Worms arrived and were dehydrated and hungry - but the note in the package explains that this is normal. The note also explains how to care for your worms and if you follow the instructions, these babies reproduce! I could barely carry my composting bin out when I needed to change my "babies" and get the fertilizer out. They don't like some things, love others. It is fun to try and figure out what they prefer but the "worm poop" is a fabulous fertilizer. This is a long term committment - getting worms is like getting a plant or a pet. You have to figure out how to feed them on when you are on vacation (just give them extra grub) and make sure they don't get out of their environment or they will die. And that isn't pretty! But the kids even enjoyed getting in on the organic care of these little wigglers.”
Isan: “It took me a year to finally set up my own DIY worm bin. The worms arrived faster than expected but luckily I had already set up my bin about a week in advance. I used a plastic bin, drilled holes, used coco coir, leaves, shredded paper as bedding slightly moistened. I put in a handful of garden soil for grit, a little coffee grounds and veggie scraps in the bin before the worms arrived. They were very wriggly and alive when I opened the bag, I put them in the bin with the lights on and within a minute they disappeared into the bedding. The next few days there were a few trying to escape but I gently nudged them back in. They are doing really well and I am making a second order of 1000 worms today as I produce more waste than they can process. My little one loves to visit and feed them, she’s learning all about worms and composting.”
